I reached out to Lucy when she was referred to me by my most trusted resource. That she would be competent, professional, and excellent at what she does, I knew would be true. But that she handled a potentially difficult situation with ease, charm, and dispatch was just the icing on the cake. Lucy Deutsch has been a member of the United Way of Northern New Jersey Caregivers Coalition for over ten years, and is a valued member of our Steering Committee. She was also the Chairperson for our Munch & Learn Committee, developing a program of professional presentations providing family caregivers with the information and education they needed to guide them along their caregiving journey.  Lucy, herself, was and still is our most requested presenter. The program evaluations she receives are always outstanding. I own and operate a non-emergency medical transport company for seniors. I referred a client of mine to Lucy because the client was having a serious family caregiver issue that needed immediate attention. I knew that Lucy was the best person to handle the challenge. She stepped in at my request and expertly solved my client’s problem with care and compassion and brought the family together to a very happy ending. Lucy beat the ambulance to the ER. She stayed with my mother well into the night. Lucy was there when I couldn’t be, and she ensured my mom got every medical consultation necessary. Lucy was there the next day when my mother had emergency surgery and kept me informed every step of the way. She was the ultimate advocate for my mom and provided all the guidance I needed when I was hundreds of miles away. I know she gave my mom the same care she would have given her own mother and, for that, I will be forever grateful.

My dad was in a bad way at home. Not taking care of himself. Not eating well. Sad. Lonely. No one in my family could bring him out of his depression after my mom died. Lucy was the one who was able to cajole him into accepting a couple of hours of help a week at home and, ultimately, get some bereavement counseling. I know he’ll never be the same after losing my mom, but the fact that he can interact with us as a family, again, is light years from where he was. Thank you, Lucy.
